     Part 1: Capital letters (อักษรพิมพ์ใหญ่)

    There are lots of times when you need to use capital letters – for example, to start a sentence or for the pronoun “I”. Here are some other important rules for using them.     The names of organizations and usually the important words in book and film titles are capitalized. When a person’s job title goes before their name, capitalize both. If the title is separate from their name, capitalize only their name.     • M.T. or GMT (Greenwich Mean Time)
    • A.T.O. or NATO or Nato (North Atlantic Treaty Organization)
    • Use a capital letter for days of the week, months of the year, holidays, and festivals, but not seasons. (ใช้ตัวอักษรพิมพ์ใหญ่สำหรับวันต่าง ๆ ของสัปดาห์ เดือน วันหยุด และเทศกาล ยกเว้นฤดูกาล)

    • It rains a lot in April and May, but the summer is very dry.
    • Use a capital letter for countries, languages and nationalities, religions. (ใช้ตัวอักษรพิมพ์ใหญ่สำหรับประเทศ ภาษา และสัญชาติ ศาสนา)

    Examples:

    • China, France, Thailand
    • Japanese, English, Thai
    • Christianity, Buddhism
    • Use a capital letter for people’s names and titles. (ใช้ตัวอักษรพิมพ์ใหญ่สำหรับชื่อคนและคำนำหน้าชื่อ)

    Examples:

    • Anthony, John, Robert, William Shakespeare
    • Professor Jones, Dr. Smith
    • King Henry VII, Queen Elizabeth I, Captain Kirk
    • Use a capital letter for trade-marks and names of companies and other organizations. (ใช้ตัวอักษรพิมพ์ใหญ่ สำหรับเครื่องหมายการค้า ชื่อบริษัท และองค์กรต่าง ๆ)

    Examples:

    • Pepsi Cola, Walkman
    • Microsoft Corporation, Toyota
    • the United Nations, the Red Cross
    • Use a capital letter for places and monuments. (ใช้ตัวอักษรพิมพ์ใหญ่สำหรับสถานที่ และอนุสาวรีย์)

    • London, Paris, the Latin Quarter

    • Jupiter, Mars, Sirius
    • Asia, the Middle East, the North Pole
    • the Atlantic, the Pacific,
    • Lake Victoria
    • the Rhine River
    • the Chao Phraya River
    • Use a capital letter for names of vehicles like ships, trains and spacecraft. (ใช้ตัวอักษรพิมพ์ใหญ่สำหรับชื่อยานพาหนะ เช่น เรือ รถไฟ และยานอวกาศ)

    Examples:

    • the Titanic
    • the Orient Express, the Flying Scotsman
    • Challenger 2, the Enterprise
    • Use a capital letter for titles of books, poems, songs, plays, films etc. (ใช้ตัวอักษรพิมพ์ใหญ่สำหรับชื่อหนังสือ กลอน เพลง ละคร ภาพยนตร์ และอื่น ๆ)

    Examples:

    • War and Peace, The Catcher in the Rye
    • Fire and Ice, Paradise Lost
    • Like a Virgin, I Don’t Care
    • The Taming of the Shrew, Romeo and Juliet
    • The Lion King, Gone with the Wind
    • Use capital letters (sometimes!) for headings, titles of articles, books etc., and newspaper headlines. (ใช้อักษรตัวพิมพ์ใหญ่ บางครั้ง สำหรับชื่อเรื่อง ชื่อบทความ หนังสือ และอื่น ๆ และรวมถึงพาดหัวข่าวหนังสือพิมพ์)
